1946 US Open, Pittsburgh, PA
Compiled by RonB52734
--*--

"The Blue Room of the Roosevelt Hotel in Pittsburgh was the scene of the 47th Annual Congress and Open Championship Tournament of the United States Chess Federation from July 8 to 20, under the joint sponsorship of the Pittsburgh Downtown Y Chess Club and the Pennsylvania State Chess Federation."

At the time, this was the largest field ever assembled for a US Open, and one of the strongest. The tournament used Swiss pairings for the 8 preliminary rounds. Players were then broken into 10-player sections for a round-robin final.

Collected here are the games I've been able to find from the 1946 US Open, which was held in Pittsburgh, PA. Herman Steiner was the tournament winner.

Many thanks to User: Phony Benoni for uploading approximately a dozen of these games. Incidentally, if you're aware of other published games played in Pittsburgh, kindly drop me a note in my profile: User: RonB52734. I'd like to develop a Game Collection: Western Pennsylvania games and players.
