Anatoly Karpov vs Boris Spassky Candidates Semif
Compiled by Pravitel

Highly interesting match, not only because the top quality play, but also from a historical point of view as the previous Champion faced-off with the next Champion. Added interest comes from the fact that the reigning Champ Bobby Fischer never played a game against Karpov and Spassky was the man that they both faced in a match only two years apart.

For examble Kasparov was extremely impressed with this match. Stating the following: "in my view was probably one of the highest quality ever played. It's more than significant, it's amazing. Spassky played this match better than he played in Reykjavik, much better, and he lost 7-4, which speaks for itself." And: "Karpov beat Spassky very convincingly, after losing game one, and in good style. In the next ten games he crushed Spassky 4-0. 4-0 and Spassky played better than Reykjavik, no blunders, no nervous reactions. Spassky fought hard and he lost 4-0 in ten games. And the quality of this match was phenomenal."
