<33rd Western Championship Minneapolis, Minnesota
July 30-August 6, 1932>

Hey, it was on the way.

While traveling to Pasadena for the international tournament there, several New Yorkers decided to stop off in Minneapolis for a little warm-up. They did well, but more significantly they gave the Western Championship a national legitimacy which it would not lose again, and perhaps set the stage for future important events.

Not for the last time, Samuel Reshevsky saw his crown taken away by a younger player, 17-year-old prodigy <Reuben Fine>. Fred Reinfeld finished a strong third, his victory over Reshevsky being crucial to the final result.
