Some S-upermen of Yesteryeary When FTB was a Cub
Compiled by fredthebear
--*--

Give Clark Kent a phone booth and watch what happens next.

This collection grew so large that World Champions Vassily Smyslov and Boris Spassky needed their own separate collection, and rightfully so. A couple of their games are kept in here.

Howard Staunton and Wilhelm Steinitz are over in the t_t players collection. They are joined by hypermodern stars Duncan Suttles and Kevin Spraggett. Some of their games remain in here, but most are over there.

Carl Schlechter was so classically good he's in a separate collection with Akiba Rubinstein. Both were gentlemen, and both were consider the best players in the world alongside Lasker.

Still yet, the 21st Century guys are playing in the next ballroom over, as the modern player plays rather often compared to the past greats. More recent games remain in here at the bottom.

Otherwise, there are a lot of players whose last names start with the letter "S"! For the record, this is a unisex club. Shirt and shoes required.

"Life is like a chess game. Every decision, just like every move, has consequences. Therefore, decide wisely!" ― Susan Polgar

"When people insult and disrespect you, the best revenge is to continue to win, and win, and win…." ― Susan Polgar

"The mind has no restrictions. The only restriction is what you believe you cannot do. So go ahead and challenge yourself to do one thing every day that scares you." ― Susan Polgar

Lord Dunsany wrote what is perhaps the finest chess poem ever written. It marked the death of R.H.S. Stevenson and was published on page 74 of the April 1943 BCM:

One art they say is of no use;
The mellow evenings spent at chess,
The thrill, the triumph, and the truce
To every care, are valueless.

And yet, if all whose hopes were set
On harming man played chess instead,
We should have cities standing yet
Which now are dust upon the dead.
