I would like to dedicate this collection to the memory of a series of exceptional classical chess players from the old Soviet Union who have been unfairly underrated by Western literature. I am referring to players such as Mikhail Chigorin, Vsevolod Rauzer, Efim Bogoljubov, Isaac Boleslavsky, Igor Bondarevsky, Grigory Levenfish, Viacheslav Ragozin, Ratmir Kholmov, Semyon Furman, Yuri Averbakh, Vladimir Simagin, Alexander Tolush, Andre Lilienthal to name a few ...

We can still learn many things from them today, rescue old and interesting opening systems, revitalize ideas and strategies now forgotten, and understand modern chess through their efforts. These great players' passion for chess can be felt in their titanic duels. To some it might seem pointless to investigate the distant past. But as Oscar Wilde wrote
