Keep 'em comin'! Fredthebear strives to include as many different sources and players as possible. Obviously, the reader could copy the link of games from one particular book or the other, so literary variety is sought in this collection as we cross paths.

Fredthebear has a large chess library, but the source of most selections provided in here remain unverified by FTB.

Thank you Qindarka! Thank you Qindarka!!

It was a simple question -- one would think with a simple answer. The instantaneous curmudgeonly responses make it quite clear (yet again) who the oppressive pair of harassing vultures are, as this dog and pony show has been grumbling, whining, and carrying on for decades toward so many members. Rather than a straight, honest helpful answer, these browbeaters kick and gouge and throw tantrums. They use a typical political ploy of feigning innocence by falsely accusing others of what they themselves are egregiously doing. So much for not posting 700-level vs 1200-level games.

"One of the supreme paradoxes of baseball, and all sports, is that the harder you try to throw a pitch or hit a ball or accomplish something, the smaller your chances are for success. You get the best results not when you apply superhuman effort but when you let the game flow organically and allow yourself to be fully present. You'll often hear scouts say of a great prospect, "The game comes slow to him." It means the prospect is skilled and poised enough to let the game unfold in its own time, paying no attention to the angst or urgency or doubt, funneling all awareness to the athletic task at hand." — R.A. Dickey

chess writer and poet Henry Thomas Bland.

Another example of his way with words is the start of ‘Internal Fires', a poem published on page 57 of the March 1930 American Chess Bulletin:

I used to play chess with the dearest old chap,
Whom naught could upset whatever might hap.
He'd oft lose a game he might well have won
But made no excuse for what he had done.
If a piece he o'erlooked and got it snapped up He took it quite calmly and ne'er ‘cut up rough'.

Sailing to Byzantium
by William Butler Yeats

That is no country for old men. The young
In one another's arms, birds in the trees
—Those dying generations—at their song,
The salmon-falls, the mackerel-crowded seas,
Fish, flesh, or fowl, commend all summer long
Whatever is begotten, born, and dies.
Caught in that sensual music all neglect
Monuments of unageing intellect.

An aged man is but a paltry thing,
A tattered coat upon a stick, unless
Soul clap its hands and sing, and louder sing
For every tatter in its mortal dress,
Nor is there singing school but studying
Monuments of its own magnificence;
And therefore I have sailed the seas and come
To the holy city of Byzantium.

O sages standing in God's holy fire
As in the gold mosaic of a wall,
Come from the holy fire, perne in a gyre,
And be the singing-masters of my soul.
Consume my heart away; sick with desire
And fastened to a dying animal
It knows not what it is; and gather me
Into the artifice of eternity.

Once out of nature I shall never take
My bodily form from any natural thing,
But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make
Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
To keep a drowsy Emperor awake;
Or set upon a golden bough to sing
To lords and ladies of Byzantium
Of what is past, or passing, or to come.

Riddle: If fish lived on land, where would they live?

Answer: In Finland.

cover songs from the 80s

Perfect weather
executing my game plan
Drawing my thoughts out

Memorizing each step
Like my mother recording
My 1st bday
Didn't blow out candles
Didn't make a wish
Witness my hero being present
Daily
My lifelong gift
My forever
My queen protects the family
Appointed me king
Because my father played checkers
Fast money
Living life in the fast lane
But crap out when the dice didn't roll in his favor Excuse my behavior
