Aug-11-02  bishop: 30.Bc4 or Bb3 work just as well.

chancho: Had he played those moves it would have been a prosaic win, but the move Keres chose was very artistic.

plang: The combination of 6..Nbd7 and 7..c5 does not work well for White; Keres recommended either 6..c5 transposing to the Tarrasch Defense (where the queen knight is developed to c6) or a move later 7..c6 leading to a Closed Catalan. The maneuver with 9..Nb4?! and 10..Nc6?! was slow and made it difficult for Black to develop his queenside. 11..Bxc5 12 Ng5! would have been good for White as 12..Nf6 could have been answered by 13 Bxc6..bxc 14 Nce4..Nxe4 15 Qxe4. Neither 22..Bxc5 23 Qxc5..Bd7 24 e4 or 22..Nxc3 23 Qd8+..Bf8 24 bxc would have helped Black. 23..bxc 24 Bxd5..Bc5 25 Qh4!..exd 26 Qd8+ followed by 27 Qxd5+ would have been winning for White. 26..h5 looks like a tougher defense (it is a bit odd that Black never defended against backrank tactics).
Dec-21-18  jdc2: The position after 29...Bh3 is problem #670 in Reinfeld's "1001 Winning Chess Sacrifices and Combinations."
Sep-12-20  Octavia: the man was called Löwenfisch! It took me some time to find the game - in 1986 they still knew how to spell his name
Jul-22-21  Saniyat24: Keres threw the net and caught a beautiful fish...!
Jul-31-21  Gregor Samsa Mendel: <Octavia>--Actually his name was originally spelled ????????? ?????????? ?????????, but I believed it's transcribed as Löwenfisch if you're German and Levenfish in current English. But you probably already knew that, and even figured out how to look up games by Aljechin and Bogoljubow.
Jul-31-21  Gregor Samsa Mendel: And I guess there are still issues here with Cyrillic characters. Look up the Wikipedia article on Levenfish or Löwenfisch to find the original Russian spelling.
