Dec-24-03  WhoKeres: After 34. Ne5 white is winning. Keres' play in this game is unusually passive. He was not yet a GM at this time and may have been showing too much respect to the old GM, Maroczy. Its games like this that probably made Keres give up the Caro-Kann for a long time, and become an expert in 1 e4 e5 systems.

Jonathan Sarfati: Keres says in his own best game collection that his loss to the veteran showed that he still had much to learn about positional play at this stage. That Maroczy could outplay the new star at the age of 65 shows his great class. Only two years later, Keres won AVRO ahead of the best players in the world.
