  plang: 6 e5 is rarely played leading to an Advanced French where White has lost a tempo with 2 d3 and 7 d4 but, on the other hand, Black by playing 4..b6 cannot play the standard ..Qb6. 23..h6? gave White a target; better was 23..Na7 24 Ng5..Nf8 25 Qh5..Bd8 26 Rxc8..Rxc8 27 Rxc8..Nxc8 and Black should be OK. Losing for Black would have been 28..g6 29 gxh..gxh 30 h7+..Kxh7 31 Ng5+..Kg6 32 Qc2+..f5 33 exf+..Kxg6 34 Qh7..Nc5 35 Ne4+. After the game Bareev pointed out that 29 Nxg7!..Bxg7 30 gxh..Bh8 31 Ng5..Nf5 32 h7+..Kf8 33 Qg4..Ng7 34 h5 would have been winning for White; instead after 29 gxh? the game quickly simplified to a draw.
