suenteus po 147: I couldn't believe Alekhine resigned when I first saw the end, but now I see that after 34.Bd3 there's no way to save the e-pawn and no useful place to put the rook on the a-file (e.g. 34...Ra1+ 35.Ke2). One of Alekhine's rare losses using the Philidor. Maybe 7...Nh6?
Jun-01-03  Larsker: Try this: There's only one other Alekhine-Schlechter game in the database (from 1911, the year after this one). Play it through without knowing the result (can be chosen in your settings) - and without looking at the box with the moves. It's well worth it.

suenteus po 147: Wow, Larsker, you're right about that match: Alekhine vs Schlechter, 1911 ! Alekhine had no luck against Schlechter. Plus he played the Scandinavian wrong. The best knock-out counter is 2.d4. Still, Schlecter was amazing in that game, winning with a bishop and pawns (against Alekhine with a rook!). Schlechter doesn't do too shabby here either.
Apr-08-08  Knight13: Alekhine wasn't in the league with these people yet in 1911. He was still improving. But still...

Apr-25-09  Fanacas: It isent bad that alkehine loses to schlechter at this moment dont forget that schlechter was 1 of the world top player at the moment he almost beatet lasker and became world champion himself.

Mateo: A severe punishment. But don't forget Alekhine was 17 years old.
