beatgiant: I can't help feeling that White may have missed a win somewhere, but it's hard to say how.

What about 32. ♗a4 ♕xa4 33. ♕xd8 to get rid of the strong black-squared bishop? If then 33...♕c6 34. ♘d2 , threatening 35. ♕c7 ♕xc7 36. bc and 37. ♘xc4 . Black can try 34...d5 35. ♕b8 ♗c8 36. ed ♕xd5 37. ♕xc8 ♕xd2 38. ♕xc4 , but I think there's no perpetual check and White is winning.

Comments, anyone?

Sep-28-04  percyblakeney: Fritz agrees that you're right, 32.Ba4 is a winning move. The machine's choice for black's 34th move is Bc8, which changes nothing.
Dec-22-05  alicefujimori: Another game in tribute to the "opening of the day". Too bad Alekhine missed a win with 32.Ba4, a really beautiful move that could ofmade this game more famous.
Feb-17-13  RookFile: This is a very good game. If you showed it to somebody and said it was played yesterday, they would probably believe you. It is thoroughly modern all the way through.
