Kibitzer's Corner
May-23-06  Runemaster: An unusual game with lots of queen manouvres, particularly backwards. Alekhine played the opening in a daring sort of way and was evidently determined to develop his dark-squared bishop as late as possible.

offramp: This was Alekhine's first win over Bogoljubov since 1934.

He received a small shock half-way through. He has just played 24...Qg6, ofering to swap off white's undefended queen on g4.

EB plays the very clever 28.a5-a6

A queen sacrifice! If black takes the queen with 27...Qxg4 then 28.a6-a7 guarantees promotion and a probable draw.

The whole game is a good one.
