Honza Cervenka: 34.Re8! Rxe8 35.Qxe8 Qxd5 36.Qxa8!! Qxa8 37.Bg2 would have been a beautiful and convincing finish of the game as the ending after 37...Qd8 38.a8=Q Qxa8 39.Bxa8 is hopeless for black. Anderssen's 40...Qd2+ was a fatal error. Playing 40...Qd8 he could have resisted much longer and even maybe saved the game.
Feb-07-04  drukenknight: if Tal was black he would have pawn rushed down the K side.
Feb-27-06  rjsolcruz: i would not mind if this system was named paulsen variation instead of the generic sounding name it is now known. the only problem is that there is already a line named paulsen. another paulsen, perhaps?
Feb-27-06  Autoreparaturwerkbau: <Honza> That's an eccelent find! 2B+2p vs. 1B+3p is indeed a won game.
Dec-09-07  Chess Carnival: Great fight here! This game should be of great inspirational value for players aiming to learn a solid way of meeting the sicilian. We often see people dismissing the closed sicilian as a boring and slow opening scheme for white. Like many other openings, it depends on the approach one takes.
Dec-09-07  Chess Carnival: By 'inspirational value' I meant not the concrete outdated variations played here, but the fighting spirit present throughout the game.
Sep-24-08  I Offer You A Resign: So if 37. Bxc5

... then Rxg2+,
38. Kxg2 Qxd5
39. Kf2 (only move) Qxc5+

and White seems to still be winning, although it looks like Black can pull off a perpetual. Am I missing something?

May-15-16  DEDEKSACHISTA: Unfortunate 29...Qa4 lets white run the table
Exchange of Queens 29...Qxe2 lets black into game
