Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-11-05  RookFile: This is a central pawn majority if I've ever seen one.
Feb-20-08  Knight13: <RookFile: This is a central pawn majority if I've ever seen one.> Yeah, created partially by 4. Bb5, which is bad, in my opinion.
Sep-09-09  Kasparkov: playing 19. f5 made white's position weak..

Also, white's black bishop has no value in middlegame..

Feb-26-10  heuristic: mo' better moves:

28...Be8 29.R1 Bf8 30.Qe2 Bf7

29.Qd5 Ra7 30.b6 Qb7 31.Qxc5 Ra8

44.Rb6 e3+ 45.Kf3 Rxb6 47.axb6 Bb7+

This game was published in the chess column of the <Atlanta Sunny South>, August 10, 1878, with these comments among others:

<29.Qd3> "Capt. MacKenzie here points out that he could have won the game by Qd5, and we are inclined to think he is right."

<29...Qg8> "Played with deadly accuracy. Steinitz says, 'An exceedingly fine maneuver on the part of the veteran, as deep and effective as it is quiet and unassuming.'"

Well, I don't know, though I see that <heuristic> gives 29.Qd5 as a better move. But clearly <30.Ra1>, setting up the ...Bxb5 shot, was not good.

It's a testament to MacKenzie's courage that he would enter such a double-edged position against Anderssen, even an aged Anderssen well past his peak.
