Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-06-04  Rowson: Nice endgame here although i think Korchnoi may have lost a seemingly drawn position.
Jul-07-04  Cyphelium: <Rowson> Yes, possibly exchanging queens at move 49 was wrong, because after 50.- Ba4!, there seems to be nothing white can do to stop Bd1 and Ng6-h4. Still at that point black is better, so maybe an improvement should be searched for earlier.

Mateo: Two blunders in this game between two of the strongest players at that time.

Andersson blundered with 40... Ne8?. Korchnoi could have win with 41. Bb7 Qd8 42. Ba5 Nc7 43. Bc6.

42... Kf8?! does not look good, after 43. Bb7 Qe8. Now, Korchnoi could have tried 44. Bc7 (instead of 44. Qb6?!). I guess Black must try 44... Kg7 45. Bd6 Qh8 46. Kg2 Bg4!? 47. fg Ng4. But it is not clear that the sac is completely good.

49. Qa8? was an amazing blunder, giving a won ending to Andersson.

Jan-10-06  BabyJ: Yes, 49 Qa8? certainly does not
look good. I don't even like 22 Ra8
much. He made the same sort of blunder
(trading off his active piece for his
opponent's passive one) twice on
the same square!

whiteshark: Korchi surely did overdo things here.
Jun-29-20  ewan14: Petrosian - esque ?
Reminds me slightly of '' the immortal retreat game ''
Jun-29-20  Howard: Sounds like a certain Petrosian victory from 1961.
