Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-14-03  rndapology: A nicely played endgame by Lasker. Why not 20 ... Bxb5 instead? with a push of the b pawn to defend it and then a push of the a pawn with black's bishop on a decent square. Instead, black allows white triad of pawns to block up his play and take up space while his king is bounced around on the kingside my white's pawn moves. 45... Rc8-h8 is a not a good time to trade rooks... why not 26 ... exd5 to try to break the pawns and create islands for white. I see 26... exd5 27. Rxd5 Rxd5 28. cxd5 Rc5 29. Rd1 Bf5 with a comparably better looking position as well as a fork threat. Anyone?
Oct-14-03  bishop: If 20...Bxb5 21.Rxe7 b6 22.a4 Ba6(or Bc4) 23.Re1 and White has an the edge because of his better Rooks. If 26...exd5 maybe better is 27.cxd5 but this looks ok for Black. There seems to be no good alternative to 45...Rh8 as ...Kg7 allows, after 46.c5, the White King to penetrate into Black's position.

  thegoodanarchist: Of course Black resigned in light of 57...Rxc4 58 Ra8+ Rc8 59 b7
Apr-04-08  Knight13: 38...axb5?? is a blunder. 38...a5 should hold things out.
Sep-27-09  carlsen o: way not 23)...Rec8 ! and win the pawn?!

  kamalakanta: 20...Bxb5 loses to 21.Nc7!
Feb-20-15  psmith: <kamalakanta> I think you are confusing 20... Bxb5 with 19... Bxb5. At move 20 the Knights have been exchanged.
Apr-16-16  Dragi: Bird achieved better position till move 30 ,than he comes with king move to nowhere 30.Kg5 losing momentum and than he showed his suicidal tendencies : 38. axb5 ?!...
