Tabanus: The Era 22 October 1871 has "E. Wood". The North Briton 27 Sep 1871 p. 3 has "E. H. Wood", and so has Liverpool Mercury 26 Sep 1871 p. 7. So Black is same as E Hall Wood.

Jun-12-21  Nosnibor: In the late 60`s to the mid seventies the Leicester Chess club use to meet at the Edward Wood Hall where I played many a game. I wonder if there is any connection to this person?
Jun-12-21  Nosnibor: Apropos my last post I have now discovered that although the name is the same the Edward Wood of Leicester was a Lord Mayor of that City in 1888 and is unlikely therefore to be connected to Edward Hall Wood the chess player.
