  MissScarlett: Black is <Walter Leaf> as given by Steinitz in the <Field> of February 16th 1878, p.190. The venue was the little-known and presumably short-lived <Old Change Chess Club>. Three weeks earlier, the club had entertained Zukertort for another 10-board blindfold simul, when <Walter Leaf> also took part and lost. In his report on that occasion, Steinitz said the audience included <the partners of the firm <Leaf, Sons>.>

That's sufficient for me to positively identify our <Walter> as THE <Walter Leaf> (not that there could be many):
