Jul-09-06  notsodeepthought: Given the score, I would have thought Gosta-buster would be the more natural pun. Maybe it's just because I'm Italian.

An Englishman: Good Evening: <notsodeepthought>, this is one of those rare occasions when CG has been out-punned. Congratulations. So I take it that you're pulling for Italy in the final of El Mundial. My loyalties are split: I have a little French and a little Italian in me.

Regarding the game itself, I like how Kashdan managed to combine both defense and attack from moves 12-23. I suspect that Stoltz overrated his chances and pressed too hard for the attack. Perhaps Rxf8+ and Qb3 aren't as strong as they appear.

Jul-09-06  EmperorAtahualpa: I read above that Black is making the sac by 24...Bxd4, but isn't it rather White doing the sac with 25.Nxf5? After all, White is the one losing a piece.
Jul-09-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <notsodeepthought> You should really submit some games with puns to chessgames.com!
Jul-09-06  ahmadov: <notsodeepthought> <Maybe it's just because I'm Italian.> Or maybe because you are not so deep thought ;).
Jul-09-06  dakgootje: Is 25. Nxf5 really the strongest move? Personely i would have played 25. Bxd4 Qxd4 26. Qh1 Qf2 27. Rg1, which i tihnk are better moves. True, after those white is also lost, but this continuation played as stated here is just worthless. then again both variation lose... maybe better to resign ^^
Jul-09-06  hitman84: Nice game.

12.Bf4 was a mistake,inviting the e5 break.

White loses center control and black gets a dangerous passer on the Queenside.

b5 is a move White should always watchout for in this opening

A very good lesson in grunfeld for white.

<dakgootje>25. Bxd4 Qxd4 26. Kh1 Re5 27.Rf1 Qd5 and black has a two pawn advantage.

Jul-09-06  RandomVisitor: Better for white are:
17.a4
19.dxe5
20.Rf1

Jul-09-06  mack: Quite why the title isn't 'Little Green Isaac' today I'm not sure.
Jul-09-06  e4Newman: is Isaac Kashdan the one responsible for the Kashdan pairing system in Swiss event?
Jul-09-06  dakgootje: <hitman84> Yes okay, that two pawn advantage might be so, but if white didnt make a serious blunder after 25. Nxf5 i assume my variation is better then this seeming worthless continuation.

kevin86: Boy did this one go to the wire! White was piped aboard, walked up the gangplank, but to his horror, found NO ship.
