suenteus po 147: Can someone explain to me why Ragozin resigns here? Is it because of Botvinnik's response: 24...Bxc2 with 25...Nxe3+ following?

  tpstar: <suenteus po 147> 24 ... Bxc2 looks good, as White has no way to save the exchange; 25. Bf2 Bxd1 26. Rxd1 (26. Rxe8!? Rxe8 27. Qxf5 is better for Black) but White plays on for a while. How about 24 ... Bxf3! 25. Nxf3 (25. Qxf3? Ng3+) Rxe3! and now I think White's best is 27. Be2 (27. Rxe3? Nxe3+; 27. Kf2 Qc5!; 27. Kg2 Rxf3! 28. Kxf3 h5! kicking the Queen off f4) and then 27 ... h5! 28. Qg2/Qg1 Ng3+ 29. Kf2 Qc5! with a crushing Discovered Check to follow.

Interesting that the alternate score stops at 23 ... Nxf5 0-1.

tpstar: Sorry, I messed up the numbering; it should be 26. Be2 etc. =)

HAPERSAUD: there are a ton of heavy sacrifice lines that expose the white king to checkmate patterns and best case scenario for white, black will equalize material and have a lasting initiative that leads to good play. one thing i admire about botvinnik is his ability to calculate to such depths and clarity in any opening
