plang: Botvinnik was critical of Lilienthal's decision to give up the two bishops recommending either 7 Bh4 or 7 Bf4. Because Botvinnik had played 6..h6 he was hesitant to castle kingside where he would have been vulnerable to an attack. After 20..Bxc3 Botvinnik felt he had a strategically won game due to the White weakness at e4. If 21 Qxc3 then Botvinnik's plan would have been to push the queenside pawns. As played, the pawn on c3 was a weakness that could be concentrated on. If 29 Ne5 Botvinnik planned 29..Nxc3 30 Qxa3..Rxa3 31 Nd7+..Kc7 32 Nxb6+..Nxd1 33 Nxd5+..Kd6 34 e4..Ne3 35 Nxe3..Rxe3 36 Rxc4..Rxe4 with a winning rook endgame for Black.

Honza Cervenka: 17.Be2 would have been better.

Phony Benoni: Plant a knight on e5 against Botvinnik, and you can go to sleep. You're probably busted.

HeMateMe: very instructive how MB plays 'around' the posted Knight, using white's static pawn formation against him.
