Jan-14-04  ughaibu: Well, so much for the "game 6" theory.

Benzol: <ughaibu> In Botvinnik's case try looking at game 17.
Jan-14-04  ughaibu: Benzol: I think the 1954 match was particularly good. I have to do some things now but later on I'll try using the games from that match to answer Benjamin Lau's question about why d-pawn games are more likely to be interesting than e-pawn games.
Apr-08-08  Knight13: Everyone should see this game, learn how Botvinnik keeps pressure on white's center!

Sally Simpson: There is a famous story from Harpo Marx how one day by mistake he wandered into a theatre showing a chess game being played by telephone.

https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comm...

Harpo gives the date as Moscow in 1933.

By coincidence in his introduction to this game by Golombek in his book 'World Chess Championship 1954' states he saw the 'exact double' of Harpo Marx in the audience.

May-24-17  Petrosianic: That's kind of an odd thing to say, cause Harpo without his wig and costume wasn't even the double of Harpo Marx himself.

Sally Simpson: It must have been a Russian spectator with a mass of curly red hair.

plang: 11 Bg5 was a new move but the standard 11 Be3 looks more logical. Black's pressure on the QP quickly allowed him to take over the initiative. 17..Rfc8 looks like an improvement giving Black the option of avoiding the bishop exchange. After that Black never had quite enough to have winning chances.
