Phony Benoni: Janowski built such a reputation on his mastery of the two bishops that playing the Spanish Exchange Variation against him would seem to be a poor strategy. And yet...

This turns out to be his only win in ten games! Of course, going up against the likes of Lasker and Capablanca is tough, but he lost regularly to lesser masters as well.

White's position at the end would dismay the most ardent Never Resigner. Both his knights are paralyzed, his king cannot get into the game, and his bishop is left with nothing to do but administer the last rites.
