kevin86: While black's pieces are tied up,the pawn advances...
Mar-22-12  thendcomes: For those wondering about the pun...

Brooklyn Lager is a delicious beer from Brooklyn Brewery in Brooklyn, New York. It's more of an ale than a lager, but I digress.

Bobby Fischer moved to Brooklyn around the age of 5-6 and lived there for many years. A stein is a mug that you pour beer in.

Mar-22-12  ughaibu: Ridiculous! That there are no delicious beers brewed outside Norther Europe is an established myth.
Mar-22-12  rapidcitychess: Very nice game, I honestly could understand very little of it. ^^
Mar-22-12  ughaibu: Rapidcitychess: has it occurred to you that maybe very little of it made sense?
Mar-22-12  haydn20: re <ulhumbrus> from 2010. Even belatedly, it's nice to hear of someone listening to Hummel, the great rival of Beethoven's youth. The Trios by the Beaux Arts on Philips are very fine too. I was glad to be reminded of this game, tho' it is far beyond my level of chess ability.

MichaelJHuman: How can a lager be an ale? It's either made with lager yeast, and fermented at lager temps, or it's an ale (or it's Anchor Steam, but that's an aberration :)

HeMateMe: I remember voting for this pun, in the Pun Voting Booth, and giving it 4/4. I'm surprised it took this long for it to be the GOTD.
Mar-23-12  sofouuk: so overnight run completed. still no decisive verdict

an amusing position, but black is helpless>

36 Qg4+ Kh6 37 f4! Qxe5 (forced) 38 fxe5

still no straightforward knockout, but looks very good for white

Mar-23-12  sofouuk: correction @ instead of 34 Qxf5?, 34 Qg3 seems to win - Kh7 35 Rd1 Nxb2 36 Rxd6 Bxd6 37 Qf4!

apparently white is just winning(!) ... Nc4 38 Qxf5+, a few more checks then play f2-f4, the WQ, e-pawn and wide open BK means black can't resist. believe it or not

offramp: The pun relates to the superb Dortmund beer called Fischer's Hell. I always drink it with a chaser of Curaçao.
Jul-06-15  Zonszein: Hello <leka> thank you for that. I'm looking forward to listen to it

thegoodanarchist: Sparkling play by the future champion.
Feb-29-16  abstract: Not easy to make a player like Stein suffer this way.
Feb-29-16  john barleycorn: <abstract: Not easy to make a player like Stein suffer this way.>

"When masters meet" was the title in MSMG.

Feb-29-16  Party Animal: What a great game! Both players had many tactics and calculations to make.
Apr-28-16  andrea volponi: 21cfg5!!è migliore di 21de2?

Sally Simpson: When it was played Fischer was the current American champion, Stein was the current USSR Champion.

I think the Larry Evans pun 'When Champions Meet' is better than '"Brooklyn Lager' (what ever that means.)

This game was awarded best game in Informator 4. Making it the first game in the Informator series to be voted Best Game.

(Volumes 1 - 3 did not have a Best Game, it started with Vol 4.)

Which is not bad considering officially this game does not exist.

according to the final table at:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World...

Fischer's M60MG's should called 'My 59 Memorable Games.' because game 60 never happened.

:)
