Feb-04-07 | | randytaylor2006: Fischer was a genius chess player, one of the best of all time. However, as a person in relation to the world, he was sadly lacking and still is. |

Oct-26-07 | | sfm: <randytaylor2006: Fischer ...as a person he was sadly lacking...>
He was complex and difficult. There's a huge difference to be "lacking". |

Nov-08-07 | | sallom89: <johnnyfroaction> Irony is when u expect something to happen and something exactly opposite happens instead. |

Dec-07-07 | | Some call me Tim: Fischer needs to be known for his chess, as is every other of his chess predecessors. He is not known for, or qualified to speak of, anything else. Would we dare to listen on bended ear to the ruminations of Peyton Manning or David Beckham on global politics? I daresay not, unless of course we are angling for entertainment. Ay, there's the rub. |
May-05-08 | | Marcellus: 23...b4 i think be decisive! |
Sep-30-08
 | | mjmorri: A powerful victory over Fischer.
I wonder why Warner never became world champion? - Must have been a Soviet conspiracy!! |
Sep-30-08 | | Riverbeast: This is Kurt Warner the football quarterback....
He came out of nowhere, had a few good seasons, then went back to being a scrub |
Sep-30-08
 | | Benzol: Wonder what happened to Ken Warner? |
Sep-30-08 | | AnalyzeThis: If he's still alive, he would be around 70 years old now. |
Oct-02-08
 | | GrahamClayton: <Benzol>Wonder what happened to Ken Warner? Benzol,
I can imagine Ken Warner now, sitting in a comfy chair with a couple of his grandchildren, telling them about the time he defeated one of the greatest players of all time. |
Oct-03-08 | | Jim Bartle: Yes, and he can conveniently omit Fischer's age at the time. Reminds me of a time a writer asked Tim Henman if he was proud of being one of the only players to have a winning record against Roger Federer. Henman answered, "Well, it helps when you start playing him when he's twelve." |
Oct-03-08 | | ughaibu: How old was Warner? |
Oct-06-08 | | Whitehat1963: Fischer was about 12 here, but Kurt Warner must have been a just a gleam in his daddy's eye. |
Oct-06-08 | | Jim Bartle: But aleady unable to hold onto the football. |
Jul-15-09 | | TheFocus: Opponent is Ken Warner, as mentioned above. |
Feb-14-10 | | antharis: I've a book "Die gesammelten Partien von Robert J. Fischer" (in german) where this game is in too. There it is mentioned that the event was the Lincoln youth-championship with a 10 round modus after the swiss-system. Fischer ended up 20th by 25 participants...
So, for me this is one more proof that everyone started small. ^^ |
Apr-16-10
 | | wwall: At the time, Kenneth Warner was Fresno junior champion and attended Bakersfield High School in California. He was USCF rated 1550. |
Apr-16-10 | | Riverbeast: <He was USCF rated 1550.> Yet another example of rating inflation
Not that he played so brilliantly in this game (in fact, Fischer played like the 1500).....But I think a 1500 in the 1950s was a lot stronger than a 1500 now But I think back then, if you were rated 2300, you were already one of the top 10 or 20 players in the country |
Apr-16-10 | | DWAustin: Robert James Fischer;the last American World Champion.I think that says it all. Will there be another? |
Apr-16-10 | | TheFocus: <DWAustin> Give me time. I am in training right now. First I have to learn how to play. What is that strange move the Knight does? Can you jump over men like in checkers? |
May-01-11 | | lost in space: <<DWAustin>: Robert James Fischer;the last American World Champion.I think that says it all. Will there be another?> Strange question. The same like "Emanuel Lasker; the last German World Champion. Will there be another? " Who knows? But I am sure it will be not S. Tarrasch or R. Hübner. |
Nov-27-16 | | zizizag: Wow! Ken Warner is my uncle! It is so hard to think of him like this! He is 80 now and taught me all the chess I know! Without him I would not be me! And to answer the question some of you asked why he did not continue chess, well, he became a math professer! And now his two favorite things are chess and math! |
Feb-23-20 | | N.O.F. NAJDORF: 20 Nxb5 was an elementary mistake which Fischer wouldn't have made only months later. I agree that Fischer was not qualified to speak about anything other than chess, which is why he should have kept his mouth shut. The fact that he expressed admiration for Hitler at about the age of 17 was a good indication that he would self-destruct, just as the Fuehrer had. |
