Jun-28-05  lentil: why does W play 31. Qa5?. i can see that 30. ... f5 drives the N/e4 off the long W diagonal and things can get uncomfortable for White, but there MUST be something better.

  Sneaky: I agree, I don't see any problem with 31.Ng5 or 31.Nc5. Mednis was far too strong to believe that he overlooked ...Ra8, so I guess he must have thought that he had some tactical possibilities after 45.Ned6.
Apr-01-12  Zugzwangovich: Possibly Mednis overlooked 33...Bf8. If instead Fischer had had to play 33...Kf7 or 33...Kh7 then 34.Ng5+ would have won for White.
