Phony Benoni: Gulko can be scary sometimes. In this game, a tactical flare-up from moves 15-22 leaves White with but one advantage: two bishops vs. bishop and knight in an open position. It is amazing how Gulko is able to use that to simply suck all the life out of Black's game.

Black's helplessness in the final position is appalling. He doesn't just have to worry about losing a pawn--his knight is in mortal danger! After a line like 46...Kf7 47.Kd5 Ke8 48.Ke6 Kd8 49.Kf7 Kc8 50.Ke7, Black has to play 50...Nb8 and allow White to trade into the easily won pawn ending.
