Aug-26-05  RookFile: It seems that Gunsberg had a notion of Gruenfeld type positions, but obviously, got crossed up in his execution.
Jan-06-06  blingice: <AdrianP> is your 175 game collection still being built or is it forgotten?
Jan-09-06  AdrianP: <blingice> It had been all but forgotten but I hope to finish it sometime...
Mar-20-06  who: I think 4.Qa4+! is the only way to punish black for the attempted reordering of the moves of the Gruenfeld.

FSR: who is correct. 4.Qa4+! leaves Black a pawn down in all lines, but he is OK after anything else.

profK: Not at all an impressive game from the Black camp...even the defence was shoddy after a spurious opening !!! Is almost like looking at a good grade player vs an amateur ... I don't think Marshall lost any brain cells in the execution of this one !!!

Precisely. That move, and only that move, has dissuaded me from trying this line outside of blitz and even there I tend not to use it against incisive, attentive, tactically alert players, who will pounce on such an opportunity; it works well only against rote players who pay minimal attention to their opponents' handling of their pet openings.
