Aug-19-04  Whitehat1963: A great endgame study, especially in king opposition.

fredthebear: This game is really something!

The current CG database lacks coverage of every round in New York and Philadelphia 1982 for both players. It shows that Gurevich played in both tournaments, but most of his games are missing.

Kind of hard to believe that child prodigy Reshevsky was pushing wood against Rubinstein way back in 1917!?!

Jun-30-20  Granny O Doul: Reshevsky lost very few games through premature resignation, and it looks like Gurevich decided to amuse himself by finishing 𝘭𝘢 Alburt vs Kasparov, 1978 . Fortunately, there are no rook pawns involved this time, so Black can also just win any old way if the triangulating idea (55... Kf5 56. Ke1 Kf4) should prove elusive.

The event was probably the CCA summer international at the old Chess Center on 14th Street (crosstable here: http://www.chesstour.com/ccasi82r.htm ). Note the generous number of $7.15 prizes awarded.

Jun-30-20  Granny O Doul: By the way, I notice an error in the crosstable linked just above: Player #53 should be Harry Lyman, not Shelby. I hope it's not too late to fix the ratings.
