offramp: Hort played some dilatory knight evolutions in this game and paid the price.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Jimenez Zerquera had a strange career in big tournaments--at or very close to the bottom of the table (e.g., last at Palma 1970), he nonetheless pulled off at least one upset per event like this one. You wouldn't guess that White was just an IM from looking at this game.

ChessHigherCat: I'm glad Z. had the deus ex mate-in-1 at the end because otherwise it would have been a lot of ultra-fancy manu(ve)ring fizzling out in the gain of an exchange (much like today's puzzle, although Leko managed to turn the exchange into a decisive advantage).
Dec-02-18  goodevans: Hort played some poor moves in the opening but <12...exd4?> really stands out. It's the sort of move an average club player would be ashamed of.

If you've got a weakness on e6 why would you invite your opponent to post a N on d4? Seriously, why?

Dec-02-18  alshatranji: <You wouldn't guess that White was just an IM from looking at this game> Hort too was an IM then, and a new one that.
