Jun-08-04 | | Tigran Petrosian: An absolutley inspired and original attack! |

Feb-20-12 | | wordfunph: "After the game, I asked my opponent if he would like to join me in the analysis room, to which he replied: ‘No thanks, it was a very
bad game!’ Bad for him, and good for me! His answer made me understand that this young Russian Grandmaster had a strong character, and with his natural talent, he would surely soon be among the elite." - GM Miguel Illescas

Mar-19-23 | | jrredfield: I saw 21 Nxh5 right away but then expected Black to grab the N, so I got off track quickly. At this point, Black could go with 21 ... Nxc5 or Be6 perhaps. I also considered 21 ... Qe8. It appears that there is no clear response for Black that stands out, since White is establishing a strong attack here with better developed pieces. |
|
Mar-19-23 | | jrredfield: The engine shows mate in 10 for White if Black accepts the N sac. |
|
Mar-19-23 | | Brenin: OTB I'd play 21 Nxh5 without wasting much time on calculation, and then watch my opponent's face (and his clock) with sadistic pleasure as he struggles to find the correct way of declining the sacrifice (21 ... gxh5 22 Qxh5 looks grim for Black, with e6 and Rf3 to come). For instance, 21 ... Nxc5 22 e6 Bxe6 (fxe6 23 Qd4) 23 Qc1 followed by 24 Qh6. Black has many possible responses, but I can't find any which seem to work. |
|
Mar-19-23
 | | FSR: <Brenin> Totally agree. Just play 21.Nxh5 and hit the clock. |
|
Mar-19-23 | | Mayankk: Going through possible defences, Is 23 ... Nxe4 preferable to 23 ... Bxf5 ? From what I can see, 23 ... Nxe4 still retains the possibility of Bxf5 later without the support of the e4 pawn. So the menacing pawn pair is gone. Now if 24 Qc1, g5 may temporarily hold fort. If Black can get Bxf5 at ant point of time, it may still have some hope of salvaging a draw if White doesn't find the best attacking manoeuvre. |

out Black's reply.

Mar-19-23 | | stacase: 25.Qc1 and I would have moved 25.Qe1 attacking the Knight, supporting the Bishop and threatening 26.Qh4 |

 | | scormus: What would my old team mate say? Play 21 Nxh5, it wins. And I would say, whow do you know? And he'd reply, positions like this always do. OK, 21 Nxh5. If gxh5 then 22 Qxh5 looks overpowering. After 25 ... Bxc5+ 22 Kh1 the B is no longer covering f6 so B hasn't gained anything from the check. So probaby 21 ... Nxc5, activating the N.
Then most of the W moves come naturally. I didn't go for 25 Qc1, instead thought Qg4, taking an extra move but attacking the N would have got there.
Now to check with SF to see why not Qg4 |

 | | agb2002: White has two pawns for a bishop.
Black threatens Nxc5 and Bxc5+.
The first idea that comes to mind is 21.Nxh5:
A) 21... gxh5 22.Qxh5, followed by f6 or Rf3, looks winning. For example, 22... Bxc5+ 23.Kh1 f6 24.Rf3 Rd8 25.Rg3+ Kf8 26.Qh8+ Kf7 27.Rg7#. B) 21... Nxc5 22.e6, with the double threat exd7 and Qd4. For example, 22... fxe6 23.Qd4 Kf7 24.fxe6+ Kxe6? 25.Ng7#. Or 22... gxh5 22.Qxh5 f6 23.Qg6+ Kh8 24.Rf6 and mate in two. Or 22... Nxe4 23.exd7 Qc7 24.fxg6 Qb6+ 25.Bd4 c5 26.gxf7+ must be winning. C) 21... Rd8 22.Nf6+, followed by Qc1, looks very good for White. For example, 22... Bxf6 23.exf6 Bxf5 24.Qc1 Kf8 25.Qh6+ Ke8 26.Rad1 Rd5 27.exd5. D) 21... Bxc5+ 22.Kh1 doesn't seem to improve Black's chances. |

 | | eternaloptimist: Well I feel good about how well I did this week! I solved all of the puzzles except for Friday’s puzzle (which wasn’t a very good puzzle) & today’s puzzle. Although I did choose 21.♘xh5 for this puzzle. <Brenin> I chose 22.e6 like u did & it would’ve worked but I erred on my next move after it. Still I had a good week solving CG puzzles w/ a 5 out of 7 score |
