Dec-24-07  pawnofdoom: Wow is this a record? How many times do you see a grandmaster (Ivanchuk) have 3 whole games in this database where someone plays out the whole queen ending checkmate!

Phony Benoni: <pawnofdoom> I notice that all three of those games used rapid time limites. Probably Ivanchuk's flag was hanging and his opponents hoped to salvage a half-point on forfeit. It's still a good sized coincidence, though.

However, the ultimate in optimistic playing-on long predates the rapid chess era: H Wolf vs Duras, 1907

Jan-03-09  WhiteRook48: Korchnoi plays it out, hoping his master opponent will blunder (quite a feeble hope)
Jan-10-09  WhiteRook48: and doesn't resign until unavoidable checkmate- or not at all.
Feb-14-09  WhiteRook48: Ivanchuk missed 91...Kc6 92. Ka6 Qa4# 0-1
