  offramp: A very difficult middle game with both kings wide open. The e-file is crucial.

Black has just played 43...Qe4. The threat is 44...Rg7 with a mating attack down the g-file.

So Marshall gives up a piece for two pawns. He then starts to play very well in that swindle-seeking way that must have scared his opponents.

But, perhaps in time trouble, he plays 66. Rf4?

and 66...Rd1 forces a mate on h1 in a few moves.
