chancho: This was the last game in a 4 game mini match that Lasker needed to win to tie the match. (+2 -2) Lasker would then annihilate Janowski in the next two matches that they played.
Jan-28-11  Llawdogg: I heard that Janowski had a rich Parisian patron who would put up a big purse for a longer match if the little guy did well in a short match against Lasker. So, Lasker may have hustled these guys by going easy in this first mini match in order to earn big bucks later and not end up destitute like Steinitz.

perfidious: <Llawdogg> Janowski's patron was Leo Nardus.
Jan-29-11  Llawdogg: Leo Nardus sounds like Leonidas of Sparta of "The 300" fame.
Feb-04-15  poorthylacine: Strange enough, the exchange variation here does not give a subbtle positional game like it will do in the famous Lasker-Capabanca 1914, but a fierce pressure of White answering the one of Janowski in the previous game!! Revenge!

Even like in Saint-Petersburg 1914, Lasker had to win in order...
