Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-16-09  ToTheDeath: Some really great boa constrictor play from Karpov.
Apr-28-16  Howard: Yes, an excellent display by Karpov. This ending, in fact, is analyzed in Anatoly Karpov: Endgame Virtuoso.
Mar-03-21  tbontb: Karpov willingly exchanges Qs early on but the position remains equal until the risky 24..c5 creates Black pawn weaknesses, giving White something tangible to aim for. Karpov systematically applies pressure to the frail Black c pawn but 39..N5b6 is an unfortunate error which loses material and the game to a simple tactical trick (instead 39..N7b6 40. f4 holds on). Larsen characteristically seeks counterplay but the White Q-side majority supported by all the pieces is always much faster than the Black h pawn.
