Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-11-08  Knight13: 12. Be3?! looks bad. I mean, why block that pawn?
Nov-02-17  offramp: Karpov had played this before, in fact he had won with Black 5 years earlier in Sosonko vs Karpov, 1979.

Early in this game Karpov set Kasparov a difficult psychological problem.

Karpov had won games 6 and 7, and now in game 8 he has just played 10....Bb7-e4. Kasparov replied with 11. Qc2-c1.

11...Be4-b7!
Kasparov could have immediately taken a draw by repetition, (12. Qc2 Be4 13. Qc1 Bb7 14. Qc2 Be4 15. Qc1 Bb7...). But if he did that, would it not look like he was a totally broken man? So he avoided the repetition by playing a move which he obviously thought was second-best.

This line is drawish, but that modern-day Prometheus Vladimir Kramnik is not the person to test your new dentures out on. In 2007 three strong players took him on in this line:
Kramnik vs Anand, 2007
Kramnik vs Carlsen, 2007
Kramnik vs Leko, 2007
Kramnik vs Leko, 2007.

Kramnik won them all.

Nov-02-17  RookFile: 12. Ba5 would almost be good but for that annoying ...Nc6 from black.

So 12. a3 is possible, i.e. 12. a3 Nbd7 13. Ba5.

It's just equal, nothing special here for white.
