Kibitzer's Corner
May-11-07  Ulhumbrus: One alternative to 8 Bd2 is 8 Nd2, and another is 8 a3 Bxc3+ 9 bxc3. Instead of 9 0-0-0, 9 a3 Bxc3 10 Bxc3 may have been tried by Korchnoi somewhere.

The white d-pawn is weak. Here Petrosian said that Black's best plan was ...Nb8, followed by ...Nc6. But Karpov, who was not Petrosian and who never would be, played 23...f6. After 24.exf6 gxf6 Kortschnoi played a rather funny mirror-image of Petrosian's suggestion.
