Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-27-06  patzer2: At first glance it appears GM Christiansen is springing a strong discovered attack with 25...Nxd2!? 26. Qxd2 c4, threatening the win of a piece and the skewer of Karpov's Queen and Rook with his Bishop.

However, Karpov anticipates all this and sets a trap with 27. Nxc4! Bb4 28. Qd3!! Bxe1 29. Nb6!, with a double attack to snare the Black Queen and thwart the former U.S. Champion's plan.

After a few exchanges, Karpov has not only won the Queen but secured two outside passed pawns in exchange for his Rook and Bishop. The advantage is clearly decisive.
