technical draw: White 40.Rf6 and as the boxing announcer would say "it's all oooover!"
Dec-01-03  Catfriend: Yep.. I think it's a great game by Gazza! I was quite surprised it wasn't analysed here. 31. Ne4!! is a thunderstrike

Sneaky: 38.Bxe6! nice way to wrap things up
Aug-21-06  you vs yourself: 31.Ne4!! is similar to 28.Be4!! in this game: Fischer vs Panno, 1970

Kasparov analyzes them both in OMGP IV

keypusher: I remember seeing this game in a Robert Byrne NY Times column back when I was first learning how to play.
Mar-13-08  Gouki: i think one should look at the final position to see how INACTIVE black's bishop and knight are.

i mean, just look at how horribly placed that knight is. Its absolutely out of the game! The bishop to also leaves much to be desired as it is not pulling its weight!

Kasparov shows in this game, when one attacks, one must bring ALL of their pieces into the attack to ensure success.

Mar-13-08  Alex Patkowski: great game!
Jun-25-08  AAAAron: Can someone please tell me why black did not make the move ...8.Bxc4. I just can't figure this one out.
Jun-25-08  mikee: AAAAron: Can someone please tell me why black did not make the move ...8.Bxc4. I just can't figure this one out

Because of Ne5

  whiteshark: O.k., let's have a look:

<8...Bxc4 9.Ne5 Bd5> (There's nothing else.) <10.e4 Bb7 11.Ng4 Be7> (Black's pawn structure will be weakened now...) <12.Nxf6 Bxf6 13.Bxf6 gxf6> (unavoidable necessity) <14.Qh5>

My guess is that there is enough compensation for the pawn and that Kasparov would have loved such a position.

thegoodanarchist: After 8...Bxc4 what is wrong with just 9.Qxc4

thegoodanarchist: In fact, Fritz 8 agrees that 9.Qxc4 is strongest, whereas 9.Ne5 hands a small advantage to Black.
May-30-12  Anderssen99: It seem that White's strongest continuation is: 35.Qe2,Rh7. 36.Rf1,Nd6. 37.h4,Nf7. 38.hxg5+,Nxg5. 39.Qg4,Qg8. 40.Qh4,e3. 41.Bf7 mate. Am I wrong?
Feb-17-18  tgyuid: there is no stronger than 1-0
Mar-28-19  SpiritedReposte: <31. Ne4!!> Insane puzzle material.
Nov-08-20  fisayo123: 31. Ne4!! Fantastic move by Kasparov and a very difficult one to meet correctly.

Black has to take because of 31...Rxg1+ 32. Rxg1 fxe4 33. Bg6+! Kg8 34. Bxf7+! Kxf7 35. Qg3

Yusupov in apparent time trouble fails to find the only move after 32. f5 Qf8!
