ToTheDeath: A fascinating game. Kasparov attacks without queens and with his king in the center.

It all works for Garry. 20...h6 21.Nf3! is excellent for White, 29...Rc7 30.Rxc7 Bxc7 31.f7+! leads to a technically won endgame.

Kasparov got carried away with his attacking schemes at the end, instead of trying to win the endgame with his extra knight he played for a mating attack (35 Rb1?) which would have drawn with correct play- unfortunately for Romanishin he blundered on the last move of the time control with 40...Rxh2?? instead of 40...a2 and the draw evaporated. Then threat of mate (41...a2 42. Rh6+ Kg8 43.Rg7#) compels Black to give up a rook and lose this highly complex hard fought game.

Jan-31-11  Whitehat1963: Okay, this game is just way out there! I'm surprised someone hasn't run it through Rybka. So complicated!

<ToTheDeath: ... It all works for Garry. 20...h6 21.Nf3! is excellent for White,>

What a genius <EQUAL OR STRONGER THREAT (EST)> that is by Kasparov, 21 ♘g5-f3!!.

I thought White could not play 20 ♖c7xf7! because 20 ... h7-g6?! would simple <REMOVE THE GUARD> of the <LOOSE> White f7-rook by <DRIVING OFF> the White g5-knight <DEFENDER>.

Of course Kasparov sees much farther. Genius-level <KNIGHT PLAY> by Kasparov.

Oct-26-20  fisayo123: Great energetic play by Kasparov. Romanishin just blunders into the mating net at the end and has to give up a piece after some stout defense.
