Jul-30-11  ToTheDeath: Interesting game. Very clever tactics.

I really like <14...Rb8!>, preparing ...e6 without allowing Nxc6 followed by Bb6.

Smirin was outplayed in the opening, and after the dubious <16.Nxc6?!> stood clearly worse. After that he should have considered the exchange sacrifice 18.b3!? with chances to fight for the initiative.

<19.c4?!> seems like positional suicide, allowing black a deadly central pawn roller.

<21...f5!> a star move, opening a second front-the flank attack is justified because the central pawn structure is locked. Black's king has no pawn cover but none of White's pieces are in position to exploit it.

The ending is charming- <34.Rf1> is forced because of 34.Kf1 Rf2+ winning. In the final position White resigns because the only way to meet the threat of ...Rg1 is 41.Kf2, then comes 41... e4! overloading the king and winning easily.
