Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-30-04  Knight13: Good Enough for Deep Blue.
Aug-06-05  Chessbrain: Why did black resign?
Aug-06-05  Veryrusty: The e pawn is stuck and will fall. If 48. Kd6, Bb3. Quickly White runs out of moves that don't lose material.
Aug-06-05  Koster: Wasn't promoting to a Knight stronger not to mention the cool way to play?
Aug-06-05  blackjacki2: hah that's a good observation <Koster>. To me it seems that after 35. Kf1, white would have a double attack on the black queen and knight and black would have no way of checking the white king to gain a tempo.
Nov-15-05  Deefstes: Why did Black play 21...Ne4 and not 21...Qxd4?
Nov-15-05  RookFile: 21....Qxd4 22. Bh7+ Nxh7 23. Qxd4
wins the queen.
Nov-16-05  Deefstes: Of course yes. Shouldn't have missed that one. Thanks.
Nov-16-05  JYMMI: deep blue is good but human are always better than computer. ah! the promotion of the black pawn was the best move of the game... sure black won a queen...
Nov-03-06  Emma: In the games that GK wins Deep Blue seems utterly pathectic and amazing that it could ever beat anyone.
Dec-19-06  littleshiva: > Chessbrain: Why did black resign?
Black did not resign !
Nov-02-08  hedgeh0g: One of the rare instances in which a strong computer is tactically outplayed by a human.
Jan-03-09  Toadspring: Does anyone know who resigned for Deep Blue? Did the computer realize it was hopeless or did someone else step in and resign for it? Just curious.

thegoodanarchist: IBM team should have resigned on move 44!!!
Jun-07-12  wlg: This is an interesting game, Kasparov offered a draw after the 23rd move.

OhioChessFan: 20. Rxe8+ is something a beginner would do.
Aug-13-14  RookFile: Well, Kasparov offered a draw on move 23, so it wasn't that bad. It's incredible that the computer walked into self-pins in an open game.
Mar-27-15  Ladyanavt: Is promotion to a knight a good idea long term? The fork at promotion is good but doesn't the knight quickly become trapped and the queen is lost anyway?
May-07-16  VGA: Kasparov should have promoted that pawn to Bishop like a bawler :D

thegoodanarchist: And of course the Man of the Match was Kasparov :)
Sep-06-17  Strelets: "Computer Blue."
Jun-07-19  The Boomerang: Kasparov whoops the supercomputer with black!
Apr-09-22  dumbgai: In Feng-Hsiung Hsu's book, he wrote that Kasparov offered a draw after making the move 23...Rd8. Hsu was the operator at the board and phoned the Deep Blue team in the back room to let them know about the draw offer. Somewhat unusually, the arbiter then indicated that the Deep Blue team needed to immediately accept or decline the draw offer (rather than allowing them to take time to decide). No response came from the back room, so Hsu declined the draw offer and played Deep Blue's chosen move. At the time, Deep Blue assessed the position as slightly better for Kasparov so they should have accepted the draw (and quite possibly would have if not for the arbiter).
