plang: The combination of ...8 Bb4,...9 Bd6 and ...10 Be7 looks questionable; maybe ...9 Be7 at once is more economical.

Kasparovs pawn sacrifice with 24 cb is clever; not at all obvious. I had trouble predicting many of his moves in the end game. 32 Rb7, for instance is interesting limiting the scope of blacks pieces. I'm sure many would have just gobbled the d pawn which Kasparov chose to ignore throughout the endgame.

-First- Kasparov plays 41 ♗b5-d3+!, saving the <UNDEFENDED> White b5-bishop which was threatened by the Black b2-rook.

-Then- Kasparov recaptures his rook with 42 ♖x♖d8, leaving him ahead by a piece.

If Kasparov had just automatically recaptured his rook first with 41 ♖x♖d8?!, then 41 ... ♖x♗b5 would have cost White his light-squared bishop.

Such is the power of the <ZWISCHENSCHACH>, or <IN-BETWEEN CHECK>. The <ZWISCHENSCHACH> 41 ♗b5-d3+! allows White to keep his extra piece, forcing Polgar's immediate resignation.
