Kibitzer's Corner
May-06-03  Bears092: White looks OK after 9. Bc6+ Ke7 10. Qxg4
May-07-03  Cyphelium: I agree that it should be tried, but still after 10.- Nxg4, what is white to play? 11. 0-0 loses immediatly of course. 11. Nc3 Qd4 and now either 12. Rf1 Nxh2 13. Rh1 Ng4 or 12. Nxe4 f5 13. h3 fxe4 14. hxg4 Kd6!? 15. c3 Qc4 16. b3 Qe6 17. Ba4 Qxg4. White is in trouble. He can fight, but I don't think he is ok.
May-08-03  Bears092: If 11. Nc3 Qd4, then 12. Nxe4 f5 13. h3 fxe4 14. hxg6, and white is fine. If 14...Kd6 15. c4 Qc4 16. Bb7, and white has 2 pawns, rook and bishop for a queen, and his king is in no particular danger (black won't mate with just the queen)

BTW... in your line, black refutes with 16...Qxc6

May-12-03  Cyphelium: >If 11. Nc3 Qd4, then 12. Nxe4 f5 13. h3 fxe4 14. hxg6, and white is fine.

The same line and two different opinions. =)

>If 14...Kd6 15. c4 Qc4 16. Bb7

Now, what about 16. -Be7 threat 17.- Rb8? Looks pretty bad for white...17. b3 Qd3 18. Ba3+ c5 19. b4 Rb8 20. bxc5+ Kc7 21. c6 Bxa3 doesn't work of course.

>BTW... in your line, black refutes with 16...Qxc6

Oooops....right you are.

wwall: Chernev (game 25 in The 1000 Best Games of Chess and game 18 in my 300 King's Gambit Miniatures) has the game ending after 8...Bg4. But after 8...Bg4, what about 9.Bxe4 Bxd1 10.Bc6+ Ke7 11.Kxd1 Ng4 12.Re1+ Kd6 13.Bishop move, and perhaps an even game, or slightly favorable for Black, but not losing position for White yet.
