Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-21-13  csmath: Strange and poorly played opening by both and obviously they did the right thing to draw as neither was in the mood to play serious. :-)
Jul-21-13  SimonWebbsTiger: Nothing strange at all.

16.Rb1 was introduced by Gligoric in this match game. "Black defended ingeniously with 16...K-N2 and the game was quickly drawn." (Bill Hartston in his book on the Gruenfeld, Batsford 1977.)

Jul-21-13  csmath: Considering a book from 1977 by a guy who was not even a GM as authority on Grunfeld? You gotta be kidding.

16. ... Kg7?! is a not a good move. The whole line has been abandoned nowadays. That is why nobody has played this on the top level since 1985.

Gligoric could not find anything over the board and then decided to call it quits.

18th move offers white a whole array of strong moves, for example 18. Qd2 which would surely test black's idea of putting king upfront.

It is probably still playable on lower level but there is no doubt that white has serious attack here.
