Apr-24-06 | | pulsar: the way I see it,yes, 19....fxg4 will be answered by 20.Nxg5 with the threat of dxe7 and Qxg6, the latter being more immediate. If 20...Rf6 (Qe8 will be answered by 21.Rxe7)then 21.dxe7 Qe8 22.Ndf3 Nf2 23. Qxd7 Nxd1 24. Qxc8 Qxc8 25. d8Q+ Qxd8 25. Rxd8+ Rf8 26.Rxf8 Bxf8 27. Kxd1 and white comes up a piece ahead. On 22...Bf5 23.Qd5 Kh8 24.Ne5, I think white still retains the advantage...I think the same holds for 22...Bc6 as the knight on c4 will lose its support from the c8 rook. It's so hard to analyze the position so I might be missing a lot of things.=) a very nice fighting game! |

Apr-24-06 | | prinsallan: Spectacular. Last moment when everything looks like a cornered king and checkmate for white black checks his way to victory! Simply amazing. |
Apr-24-06 | | gmgomes: <what is the Yoguslav Attack?>
I saw a video about a game Fischer x Larsen, about it: http://www.chess.ac/seelearningvide... |
Apr-24-06 | | GlennOliver: 25. Nxb5 looks preferable |
Apr-24-06 | | dakgootje: <gmgomes> Thanks for that link! Took some time sometimes to understand all his english, as he didnt pronounce every word too clearly (which i dont either, but i dont do such programs ;-), but it was really worth watching! |

 | | Peligroso Patzer: This is a fantastic game. It won the best game prize for its volume of Chess Informant (#30) by a wide margin. |
Apr-24-06 | | Castle In The Sky: Brilliant tactics by both sides. A remarkable game. |
Apr-24-06
 | | kevin86: A strange finish:black sacrifices his queen only to eventually end up a queen to the good! Both sides have queen sacs in the same game! Until black captures the bishop at d5,the queen is taboo,on penalty of immediate mate. |
Apr-24-06 | | Shajmaty: <rya: are par for the course in the accelerated dragon> But this is not an Accelerated Dragon: this is the Dragon (B7x) itself! |
Apr-24-06 | | Shajmaty: <syracrophy: After 32.Qxd5 g1=Q and the victory is a few Miles away> More precisely, the victory is nine moves away: 33. Rxf7, Qd1+; 34. Ke3, Re8+; 35. Re7, Rxe7+, et cetera. |
Apr-24-06 | | Shajmaty: 17 Ne4? is a (little) mistake. The best move is 17 exd6!, as Miles played with the White pieces seven years later. Nice play, Tony! |
Apr-24-06 | | Nomen Nescio: I would have traded more early on as white. |
Apr-24-06 | | Shajmaty: <GlennOliver: 25. Nxb5 looks preferable> Not so fast: 25...Bxb5; 26. Qxd6, Qxh4 and Black's two bishops look terrific! |
Apr-24-06 | | Jarlaxle: This is the best pun i've seen as well as a great game. Miles Ahead of coarse a reference to the album Miles Ahead by the master MILES DAVIS = GOD |
Apr-24-06 | | Shajmaty: <itz2000: if 19..fxg4 then probably 20. dxe7> As Pulsar stated, after 20. Nxg5, Rf6; 21. dxe7, Qe8; 22. Ndf3 Black is completely lost. 22... Rc7 doesn't work either, because of 23. Bxc4+ and 24. Qd5+. |
Apr-24-06 | | dbquintillion: I'll bet Ljubojevic was feeling Kind of Blue after this game was over. |
Apr-24-06 | | Jim Bartle: Yeah, So What? |
Apr-24-06 | | tacite: An alternative pun : I can see for miles and miles... |
Apr-24-06 | | EmperorAtahualpa: This pun reminds of the pun for that other Game of the Day "Miles to go" (Keene - Miles)...now THAT's a great game! |
Apr-25-06 | | dbquintillion: I'm outpunned by Jim Bartle. And just as I was Relaxin'. |
Apr-25-06
 | | Sneaky: <Jarlaxle: MILES DAVIS = GOD> I was wondering if this was a Miles Davis reference. Yes, Miles was the Zeus of Jazz, "the God of the Gods." Some men made music, but Miles WAS music. |
Apr-25-06 | | Jarlaxle: nicely said <sneaky> ...
i think bitches brew would be a great pun for a crazy queen sac or something |
Apr-25-06 | | Jim Bartle: I like a lot of his music (King of Blue, Sketches of Spain), can't even listen to much of the rest. Davis was so off-putting in his personality, acting like HE got it about great music and if you didn't like it you were jut weren't hip, that he made it difficult to really like him. I guess you have to separate the music from the man. I saw him play at Fillmore West around 1970 on a bill with the Grateful Dead. Seemed to me he sort of sulked around the stage, seemingly doodlingly most of the time, then coming up with brief bursts of brilliance. |
May-08-06 | | Jarlaxle: <Jim Bartle> Lucky you, unfortunately i was born 4 years before miles died and never had the chance to see him.. But maybe thats why I like his music so much (because i never knew of his crude personality) <I saw him play at Fillmore West around 1970 on a bill with the Grateful Dead. Seemed to me he sort of sulked around the stage, seemingly doodlingly most of the time, then coming up with brief bursts of brilliance> In regards to the sulking around stage, in his book miles talks about different notes sounding better to him on different parts of the stage. maybe that can explain the sulking?? just a guess. |
May-08-06 | | Jim Bartle: I didn't mean to call him "crude," and I don't think he was. He was more "brooding," and didn't suffer anyone he considered a fool. He didn't say a word during the whole performance I saw; I don't think he really acknowledged the audience much at all, though it was a big deal that he was playing on a bill with the GD. |
