Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-23-10  elohah: That's a nice final move.
Is there a win?

Certainly after 27...g5 28 Qh7+ Kf8
29 Rxg5!! rips thru effectively.

What about 27...Rxe7 or 27...Kxe7 tho?

Feb-23-10  1. h4: <elohah>

27...♖xe7 is met by 28.♖xg7+ ♔e8 29.♕xg8+ ♔d7 30.♖xe7+ ♔xe7 31.♕g7+ ♔d6 32.c5+!, winning the black ♕ on c7. Black ends up with ♖+♗ vs ♕ with 32...bxc5 33.dxc5+ ♔xc5 34.♕xc7 ♖xd3, which, of course, is hopeless.

27.♔xe7 loses in a similar fashion: 28.♕xg7+ ♔d6 29.c5+. Notice that the white ♖ on d3 is protected, so 29...bxc5 30.dxc5+ ♔xc5 31.♕xc7 ♖xd3 doesn't quite work.

Btw, I like your avatar. :D

Dec-14-13  gaurav35: 21...Kg f8? I think 21...Qe5 and then white would resign.
Dec-14-13  offramp: After 27.Ne7 I would have asked, "What have you taken?"
Jan-11-15  ljfyffe: 18Rh3 a6...
Jan-11-15  JimNorCal: How about the counter sac, 24. ... Rxd4
If RxR, QxN and white has been slowed down while black has threats.
Jan-12-15  ljfyffe: <JimNorCal>Because of 24...Rxd4 25Rxd4 Qxe5 26Rd8+ Re8 27Qxg8+..
Jan-12-15  ljfyffe: <gaurav35>After 21...Q×e5, Marshall just plays 22Nxf6+.
Jan-12-15  JimNorCal: <ljfyffe>: You're right, thanks!
