Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-10-20  zydeco: Alekhine takes 7...e6 as proof that Marshall didn't sufficiently understand the modern - i.e. hypermodern - treatment of the opening.
Dec-10-20  sudoplatov: Tartakover did have a 7-0 win vs Marshall here. (There's a Marshall win in a tournament Paris from the early 1900s I think.) So Alekhine may be right.

As a bit of a counterweight, Marshall beat Reti 4-2.

Marshall - Breyer 2-0-0
Marshall - Nimzovich 5-6-9
Marshall - Bogolyubov 2-2-4
Marshall - Gruenfeld 1-1-3

One need not understand the opponent's philosophy; one must only make better moves.

Of course, the Hypermoderns hadn't completely figured out to put theory into practice.
