Phony Benoni: An excellent game by Stoltz, with some subtle finesses. For instance, note 22...d4, which forces the rook to either b3 or d3 where it is unprotected, ruling out 24.f4 as a defense to 23..Qh3.
Jun-20-09  percyblakeney: In 1935 Sweden shared the lead in the Olympiad after 15 of the 19 rounds, and won the remaining matches but not with enough margin to finish better than second. USA lost against Sweden, this being the only decisive game of the match, but won the gold for the third Olympiad in a row.

Some very strong teams were distanced a bit, for example Austria had Grünfeld, Spielmann and Eliskases on the top boards but ended up seventh, more than ten points from first place. USA had Fine and Marshall on the top boards but won the gold thanks to Kupchik and Dake, together scoring 19 wins and 13 draws in 32 games. Fine scored +5 -4 =8, Marshall +6 -3 =3.
