Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-18-04  Kenkaku: Mate is only preventable by loss of the queen. 20. Nc6+ Ka8 21. Nxd8 Rxd8 22. Rc8+ Rxc8 23. Qxc8# or 20. Mc6+ Kc7 21. Nxd8+ Kxd8 22. Qc8#
Jul-02-05  Monoceros: Wow. I was looking for Sicilian games with 2. ... b6; probably it's a bad continuation overall but I was interested in the idea of fianchettoing the Q-side bishop, trading off the QBP as happens here, and taking command of the QB file. Basman seems to be putting a plan like this into effect and then 11. ... O-O-O? The king's position is airy because of the missing QBP and four of White's pieces are already trained squarely at the queenside. Miles attacks immediately and in fewer than ten moves Basman is dead. This definitely seems a case of "castling into it". What was he thinking?
Jul-02-05  Giancarlo: :-o I've always wondered how a 2..b6 sicilian for Black would work out! I didn't know there was someone else like me out there! :-)

In the line I was considering, I like 5..e5 followed by 6..nc6 and things seem intresting enough. However I haven't been brave enough to try it in a game yet :-)

  WannaBe: check out the percentages...
Opening Explorer
Jul-02-05  Giancarlo: already did before you said it ;-)
Jul-03-05  Monoceros: The number of relevant games in the database is so few that I'm unsure that anything can be safely concluded from the percentages. I'll have to try that line, Giancarlo, but I'm such a patzer I'd probably screw up the game anyway.
Jul-03-05  Giancarlo: In any event I'd be glad to see you try it!
Jul-03-05  farrooj: sometimes I try b6, but i don't know all the main line theory. you can check it out at Opening Explorer but you need to be a premium member
Jul-03-05  farrooj: oops, forgot to see your previous posts. Anyway, I think the plan is to have it like a najdorf (that's how I play it) with a6, b6, e6, d6 Bb7, Qc7, Rc8, Rd8 etc
Jul-03-05  Giancarlo: Why be a premium member when you can explore the opening yourself? :-) I know it's a luxury, but I liked it better when it was available to everyone, I really don't want to pay money to see a bunch of moves that are analyzed in percantages etc. Boourns to that.
